About Me…

Emilie Anderson was born and raised in San Diego, where she grew up in an environment that supported and valued storytelling in all of its many forms. Throughout her scholastic career and beyond, she has been deeply involved in the visual and performing arts, where she honed her leadership skills and creative instincts.

During her four years at San Diego State University, she dedicated her time to expanding her knowledge on the storytelling process and the many different aspects of film production, as well as many different forms of theater and writing. She gained experience in screenwriting, directing, producing, production design, sound recording, and hair and makeup, which allowed her to better understand the filmmaking process, as well as improve her skills as a director. She was able to understand more about the importance of each role on set and how to best support it.

Additionally, her minors opened her mind to numerous unique perspectives on the writing and directing process that went beyond what is obvious to the average film student. She learned to value the actor's perspective in a production, as well as the best way to adapt to or convey a specific vision. Meanwhile, the classes she took in screenwriting, poetry, fiction writing and novel writing also taught her about realistic dialogue, compelling action, and how to make a story feel engaging and believable.

During her time at SDSU, she was able to prove herself on numerous film sets, including "Shayna Punim"— which she wrote, pitched, and then directed after it was selected as a thesis film that semester. Additionally, she was able to co-write and publish a book, complete an internship with Fiction International Magazine, and acquire a thorough understanding of both fiction and documentary filmmaking.
